Summit Supercomputer | Most Powerful Computer in the World
The US scientists introduced the world’s most powerful and advanced scientific supercomputer. Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) of US Department of Energy made this, and they named it Summit. It is eight times more powerful than the most powerful supercomputer TITAN.
This supercomputer can complete 200,000 trillion calculations per second. This computer can be used in the study of topics such as energy production, advanced materials research and artificial intelligence. With specific scientific research, it can calculate over three billions of data.
US computer maker company IBM and chip maker NVidia worked together to create Summit. It is IBM AC 922 system, which has 4608 computer servers. Each server has two 22-core IBM Power, nine processors and six NVidia Tesla V100 graphics processing unit accelerators.
Before Summit, the United States was in the fifth place in the list of countries that have the fastest supercomputer. But after launching Summit, United States is returning to the top position.
China’s Sunway taihulight is the most powerful computer in the world. It can calculate 200 petaflops or 200,000 trillion per second. The United States claims the Summit Super Computer will work at the double speed of the taihulight.
Summit made at the cost of $200 million can run at fewer electricity costs. Summit will take 13 MW of electricity.
Rating website top500.org publishes the list of top 500 supercomputer list twice a year. Le Chak Benchmark publishes that list with a survey with the help of German and American experts.
